Docs by the Bay is an ERMEP training community. The Eastern Region Medical Education Program (ERMEP) promotes and develops Distributed Medical Education (DME) in Eastern Ontario by facilitating the placement of medical learners from any Ontario School at appropriate teaching sites. Queens University and the University of Ottawa have collaborated with ERMEP to extend its services to all learners in healthcare throughout their schooling in first, third- and fourth-year placements. Although Queens University and the University of Ottawa are ERMEP’s academic affiliations, all six medical schools in Ontario have equal access to ERMEP.
Our community is actively involved with ERMEP placements and accommodations are available in a fully furnished and equipped 2-bedroom apartment located one block from Trenton Memorial Hospital. If you are interested in medical student, clerk or resident rotations (core or elective) in our community, please contact ERMEP at www.ermep.com. Funding is available for placements of 4-weeks or more.
Each year, our community participates in the ERMEP sponsored Community Week, by hosting 8 first year medical students. In this one-week placement, students are exposed to medicine being practiced in family clinics, the Emergency Department, Day Surgery and the In-Patient Unit. We also arrange for various social and recreational activities to give the students a taste of life in our community.
See what some of our recent medical learners had to say about their placement in our community:
