Our area also has over 40 wineries and craft breweries nearby. As well, art galleries, museums, and theatres can be found here. For the foodies, we have everything from gourmet food trucks to gourmet restaurants! Each season offers different community festivals with a focus on cultural, musical, recreational activities and pets!!

Brighton

Brighton

Brighton is a charming town situated on the shores of Lake Ontario, just 15 minutes west of Trenton. Conveniently located on the 401 corridor between Toronto and Kingston, Brighton offers the advantages of rural living with easy accessibility to large cities, appealing to young families, retirees and everyone in between. Excellent schools, safe neighborhoods with affordable housing and convenient childcare make living here a “Bright” choice.

With a population of approximately 12,000, Brighton is well known as “Apple Country”. The bustling town boasts unique boutiques, restaurants, cafes and fresh farm produce. Museums, heritage sites and seasonal festivals are abundant.

Brighton is an ideal location for outdoor lovers, where you can drive through the rolling hills of Northumberland County, or bask in the sun on the 2.5 km sandy beach at Presqu’ile Provincial Park – a 4-season destination for camping, swimming, cross-country skiing, windsurfing and hiking. Conservation areas, walking and cycling trails and bird watching are all popular attractions

Testimonials

  • Growing up in the area, I knew how beautiful it was. Having access to the water was important to me, and we are fortunate to be right on the Bay of Quinte. The proximity to Prince Edward County is also a plus, and in my time away from home it’s become a real destination. Also important to us was the ability of my partner to find a job. As she is not in medicine, it was important to us that the community we chose was willing to assist her in finding employment. So far Paula and her team have been fantastic in distributing her resume and introducing her to prospective employers. Overall, Quinte West has so much to offer for physicians looking to set up a practice. The medical community is great, the area is beautiful, and the cost of living is excellent. Having grown up in the area, I had always said that I would never move home. The longer I’ve been away the more I've realized just how special the Quinte area is!"

  • Soon after starting my rural rotation for my programme with the Brighton Family Health Team I realized that this was more than just another rotation I was going to complete. Call it serendipity if you want, but I started to think of Brighton as a future home. The staff and patients at the clinic made me feel welcome from day one. I had been looking for several months and had numerous offers including locum positions, but I realized that I wanted to commit to a group of patients and a community early on. Brighton was a good fit. Being a physician in a smaller community has both its perks and challenges which I am eager to tackle. I am looking forward to this next chapter with great excitement.

  • My husband and I were recruited to the area during residency. We both wanted to work in a smaller community where we could have a broad scope of practice, including hospitalist work. We were welcomed with open arms, and it has been so rewarding to serve a high-needs area. We are also privileged to be part of a supportive medical community, with specialists who are always willing to help a colleague in need. Speaking to other physicians in the area, we got a sense that the Quinte West region would be an ideal place to raise a family. The lifestyle is relaxed and the low cost of living is a major bonus. It was important for us to stay relatively close to family in Toronto and Cobourg. We definitely take advantage of our easy highway 401 access. Of course, we also enjoy our proximity to Prince Edward County, Kingston and neighbouring communities.
